Whether you are brand new to PC gaming, or a veteran, it is always good to know what options you have for gaming on your computer.

In this post, I will be talking about different game launchers you can install on your Shadow that allows you to play games. So, let us get started!

What is a game launcher?

If you are an avid PC gamer, you may already know what a game launcher is. You are probably familiar with Steam, Origin, Epic Games, etc. These are all game launchers!

A game launcher is a program that houses a library of games to play. This usually includes a store to purchase games from.

Steam is probably the most well-known game launcher of all time. It was launched in 2003 as a stand-alone client to update Valve's games. It soon expanded to covering third-party games and evolved into what we know and love today.

Epic Games Store

Epic Games Store was launched in 2018 as a website and stand-alone launcher developed by Epic Games. The Epic Games Store is required to download and play games released by Epic Games. You can also purchase and download third-party games using the Epic Games Store client as well.

GOG Galaxy

GOG, Good Old Games, is a video game distribution platform that focuses on DRM-Free content. Launched in 2008, GOG is one of the top game launchers around.

Battle.net

If you have ever played World of Warcraft, Diablo, Overwatch or Starcraft, you may recognize Battle.net. This game launcher is Blizzard's launcher they use for all of their games. Battle.net initially launched back at the end of 1996 and has grown and developed alongside Blizzard's games.

Uplay is the game launcher distributed by the game developers, Ubisoft. Launched in 2012, Uplay was originally released to run with Ubisoft based games. Now the library boasts over 100 games to choose from.

Origin was released in 2011 by Electronic Arts. Origin boasts some nifty social features, and houses all of EA's games as well as some others.

XBOX Play Anywhere / XBOX Game Pass

Developer: Microsoft

Developed by Microsoft, you can play any games boasting the "XBOX Play Anywhere" title on your Windows 10 PC. Combine this with the XBOX Game Pass, and you have access to hundreds of games to play on your Windows 10 PC.

Final Thoughts

There are many game launchers to choose from, each with their own features. I have been a long-time user of Steam, and thus I will probably purchase most of my games through them, however, some games are only available on other launchers.
