Yesterday, many Stadia users noticed a new, mysterious game appear on the Stadia Library. This game, named Orpheus, was suddenly available for players to play. To those who played it soon found out that it was the developer build for Gods & Monsters, Ubisoft's upcoming adventure game.
In a statement to Eurogamer, Ubisoft confirmed that "This footage is from our E3 2019 demo, which was shown to select press last June and is now over one year old. Much has changed since then in terms of features, tone, art and character design, and even the name of the game. We are hard at work and very excited to finally show players what we have created at the end of summer."
Also in a statement sent initially to Kotaku, Google Stadia stated that "Regretfully, on Thursday morning, we mistakenly made an E3 2019 demo version of Gods & Monsters from Ubisoft available on the Stadia store that was not intended for the public to play," a Stadia spokesperson said. "A few hundred gamers were able to play it for less than 30 minutes. We sincerely apologize to our partners at Ubisoft for this mistake."
You can find a clip of the gameplay below.
Many have compared the gameplay to that of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. With a similar stamina bar, and many assets and UI elements pulled from what appears to be Assasin's Creed: Odyssey, you can tell that this is a demo build of the game.
Initially, only a cinematic trailer was available for Gods & Monsters. This accidental leak gives us a glimpse into what the game may look like!
