Anker 7-port USB 3.0 Hub Review for Shadow

Finally, it is here! The Anker 7-Port USB 3.0 Hub. I have finally gotten my hands on one of these, and now it is time to review it and see how well it works with Shadow and especially the Shadow Ghost.

Let us begin with the review!

Anker 7-port USB 3.0 Hub

tipsandtricks8-1

Anker is one of the leading manufacturers for quality device chargers, charging cords, and USB hubs. The The Anker 7-Port USB 3.0 Hub is one of many USB hubs that Anker offers.

Build Quality and Design

TIPSANDTRICKS8-3

This device is sleek, compact, and it looks rather nice next to my Shadow Ghost!

The top of the device has the Anker logo on top with a small power light underneath it. Below that you will see 7 USB 3.0 ports, one of which has BC 1.2 capabilities to charge your favorite devices.

At the head of the device, you will see two connections. One for the USB cable, and another for the power supply.

The The Anker 7-Port USB 3.0 Hub is made out of mostly plastic, but it feels sturdy and well made.

This USB hub is a powered USB hub, so you will need to make sure you have it plugged in at all times, and at max load, the USB hub will pull 36 watts of power.

Performance

tipsandtricks8-2

The The Anker 7-Port USB 3.0 Hub offers 7 USB 3.0 ports that allow up to 5Gbps of transfer speeds on all 7 ports. The 7th USB BC 1.2 port allows for charging speeds of up to 1.5 amps on top of continuing to transfer data.

If the Anker device is disconnected from a computer or the connected computer is asleep/shutdown, the USB hub will charge at up to 2 amps.

I have personally not had any issues with it, as I have 4 USB 3.0 devices connected to it at all times.

System Requirements and Compatibility

tipsandtricks8-4

The The Anker 7-Port USB 3.0 Hub requires that your computer is running at least.
- Windows 7 or newer
- Mac OS X 10.8.2

Linux is not listed as a support operating system, however, it should still work. Try to use the SHadow recommended Ubuntu 18.04 if you are using Linux. Other versions of Linux may have some trouble with Shadow specifically.

Using it with Shadow

Shadow Client (Windows)

As the The Anker 7-Port USB 3.0 Hub will be running off of your local machine, as long as you are using a required operating system as listed above, you should not have any issue using this device with your computer.

That means you should not have any issue using any connected devices with your Shadow.

Shadow Ghost

This is where this review is mainly focused on. Using the The Anker 7-Port USB 3.0 Hub with the Shadow Ghost.

As many of you know, the Shadow Ghost has 4x USB ports, but only two of them are USB 3.0. Since many peripherals require a USB 3.0 port to be detected on your Shadow device via the Ghost, a USB 3.0 hub is almost mandatory if you have a lot of devices.

I can say that the The Anker 7-Port USB 3.0 Hub works wonders with Shadow Ghost, and all devices connected to it are being detected by Shadow. Both my Corsair Scimitar Pro and Corsair K65 Keyboard are detected by the installed iCUE software and both my USB sound card and Blue Snowball Ice Microphone are detected as well. 4 devices requiring a USB 3.0 port, and all are working perfectly fine!

Final Thoughts

I absolutely love the The Anker 7-Port USB 3.0 Hub. It allows me to finally be able to manage all my devices without swapping them between ports whenever I need to use/modify them.

I highly recommend this USB hub to anyone looking for one to use. It may be on the more expensive side ($35 at the time of this post), but, the build quality and performance are top-notch. Anker hit a bullseye with this USB 3.0 Hub. I only wish I had it sooner!
